Shaughnessy Known by many as the Vancouver's Grand Old Neighbourhood, Shaughnessy is a direct result of the city's major economic boom in the early 1900s. Originally developed by the Canadian Pacific Railway, and named for then president Sir Thomas Shaughnessy, the area is an early example of a master-planned community. Winding tree-lined streets are flanked by well-tended hedgerows and gardens surrounding luxurious homes and gated estates.
The Shaughnessy community is located in the centre of the city, with convenient access to both downtown, and the airport. There are two elementary schools, a secondary school, and four community parks including the breathtaking 55-acre VanDusen Botanical Gardens.
